TEMPURA
(天ぷら or 天麩羅 tenpura ) is a Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried.
Origins
The recipe tempura was introduced to Japan by Portuguese Jesuit
missionaries particularly active in the city of Nagasaki also founded by
the Portuguese, during the sixteenth century. Portuguese Jesuit, during the same period that panko and such dishes as tonkatsu were also introduced from Portugal. Tokugawa Ieyasu, founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate of Japan, reportedly loved tempura
